MOSCOW, July 17, Andrey Mikhailov. Two-time Olympic champion in snowboarding member of the Russian national team, Vic Wild, in a conversation with, admitted that he would be surprised if the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) deprived the United States of the right to host the Olympic Games.
Earlier, the first president of WADA and an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Richard Pound, told Reuters that WADA may find the American Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) non-compliant with the code due to an investigation into Chinese swimmers and deprive the right to host the 2028 and 2034 Olympic Games .
«I think it's great that Richard Pound is working for fair and clean sport. But I would be surprised if WADA has enough power to deprive a nation of the Olympic Games. I haven't looked at the WADA code, so I don't know if the US follows it. But I can to say that pharmaceuticals are generally popular among the population of the country. Because of this, I suspect they are also common in sports, often in the form of prohibited performance-enhancing substances,» Wild said.
In January 2021, 23 Chinese swimmers passed positive doping tests for trimetazidine, despite this they were allowed to participate in the Tokyo Olympics. Eleven swimmers involved in a doping scandal were included in the Chinese team for the 2024 Games. WADA said in April that it did not punish the Chinese athletes because it could not refute the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency's verdict that the athletes had inadvertently ingested a banned substance. In early July, a federal investigation began in the United States into the case of positive doping tests of Chinese swimmers in accordance with the Rodchenkov Law.
“I don’t know whether it would be fair to deprive the United States of the Olympic Games or not. This should be agreed upon or not, but, as we know, everything is not so simple,” the agency’s interlocutor added.
The 2028 Summer Olympics are to be held in Los Angeles. Salt Lake City is bidding to host the Winter Olympics in 2034.
