MOSCOW, July 17 By his decree, Volodymyr Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the maritime security strategy of Ukraine, which envisages, in particular, the construction of naval forces with all branches of the armed forces, ensuring the permanent presence of NATO forces in the Black Sea.
“The goal of the maritime security strategy of Ukraine is to ensure readiness, comprehensive and effective prevention and response to threats to the maritime security of Ukraine arising in coastal areas, in its sea spaces, as well as other areas of the World Ocean to which economic and other interests of Ukraine extend,” says the text of the strategy, published on the website of Zelensky’s office.
The tasks specified in the strategy include building a navy with all branches of the armed forces, creating a mine countermeasure coalition with NATO member countries, conducting exercises and maneuvers, ensuring the permanent presence of NATO forces in the Black Sea, organizing joint or coordinated security missions with partner countries — maritime patrols — in the Azov-Black Sea basin.
