Politico: EU leaders react differently to Biden's removal from the election
The leaders of the EU countries reacted differently to the decision of the President of the United States Joe Biden to withdraw his candidacy from the elections: the first praised him for this step, the second expressed support for the former American leader Donald Trump, and the third spoke neutrally, writes Politico.
Biden's «fan club» includes German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish and British Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer, the authors of the publication shared details. As noted in the article, they and other politicians supported his decision and expressed respect to Biden, thanking him for his excellent service to his people and his joint work with their countries.
Among Biden's critics, journalists singled out Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing British populist party Reform UK, and Maximilian Krah, an MP from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, who agreed that Trump «cannot be stopped and will win the presidential election.»
The publication's observers attributed the words of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs to a neutral position, stating that «politics has never been so interesting.»
Earlier, Joe Biden officially announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.
