500 thousand NATO troops placed on high alert
Since 2014, more than 500 thousand NATO troops have been on high alert. This was stated by the official representative of the North Atlantic Alliance Farah Dahlallah.
According to her, during this period the bloc has undergone the most significant transformation in its collective defense.
“We have implemented the most comprehensive defense plans since the Cold War, and currently more than 500 thousand military personnel are on high alert,” TASS quotes Dakhlallah.
Several European countries have restored or expanded mandatory military service amid the growing threat from Moscow, part of a set of measures aimed at strengthening defenses that are likely to be further strengthened, writes CNN.
Several countries — especially in Scandinavia and the Baltics — have introduced conscription again. Failure to report for military service can result in fines or even imprisonment.
Latvia has become the latest country to introduce conscription. Compulsory military service was reinstated on January 1 this year after being abolished in 2006. Male citizens will be called up for military service within 12 months after turning 18.
Recall that last week Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the North Atlantic Alliance is preparing for a military conflict with Russia.
< p>And on Monday, Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic noted that this preparation is being carried out faster than many people think.
