Police detained a man who used a sledgehammer to remove the head from a bust of Joseph Stalin in Zvenigorod near Moscow. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region.
It is known that the detainee was born in 1981. A criminal case was opened against him for vandalism (Part 1 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code). The man was released on his own recognizance.
The night before, the Zvenigorod telegram channel published a video of a man knocking the head off a bust of Stalin on Sovetskaya Street with one blow. «Caution News» also reported damage to a nearby bust of Vladimir Lenin. Judging by the photographs, part of his chin was broken off.
A bust of Stalin was erected in Zvenigorod in the summer of 2023 without permission from the authorities. Despite protests from local activists, the city administration refuses to dismantle the sculpture. In March 2024, in the signature “Stalin” under the bust, the letter “t” was corrected in black paint to “r”.
