WASHINGTON, July 22 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked about a personal meeting with former US President Donald Trump during his visit to the US this week, the American newspaper Politico reports, citing sources.
“Netanyahu has asked for a private meeting with former President Donald Trump during a trip to the United States this week,” the newspaper reported Monday, citing two sources familiar with the situation.
Sources are said to have said that people close to Netanyahu and Trump had previously discussed the possibility of a one-on-one meeting between the two politicians, possibly in Florida. At the same time, Trump has not yet agreed to the meeting, but he has not directly rejected this proposal, the sources indicated.
One of the publication's interlocutors noted that the meeting could take place later this week — after Trump's rally in North Carolina on Thursday.
Earlier on Monday, before flying to Washington, Netanyahu said that he would personally thank current President Joe Biden for supporting Israel and tell the US Congress that Israel is the most important US ally in the Middle East, regardless of the results of the presidential elections. Biden announced on July 21 that he would not seek re-election to a second term. He supported the candidacy of his vice president, Kamala Harris. At the same time, Trump has repeatedly stated that it will be much easier for him to defeat Harris.
