Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on January 10, 2023, and spent 175 days in the clinic. Due to the necrosis that developed, he underwent several amputations of his arms and legs.
«It's very easy for any passerby to recognize me now,» said Kostomarov. «I don't hide from anyone, I don't wear a coat or wide pants. Everyone sees who I am. Many people come up to me and want to take a photo. They support me and say, «A real man, with such willpower! An example for everyone who whines over trifles.» Yes, there is more of that now, but it's not so much that people are jumping on me from all sides.»
From July 12 to August 11, the figure skater is performing in Ilya Averbukh's show «Together and Forever,» which is taking place in Sirius.
«That I'm still in the ranks,» said Kostomarov, answering a question about the meaning of the show. «That I'm still with my team, with whom I've been together for 20 years. With Ilya, with the guys. That I'm not lying on the couch, but somehow working and performing, and enjoying it. The audience is incredibly supportive, gives me strength and inspires me. This doesn't leave me indifferent.»
