Russian Foreign Minister criticizes possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Southeast Asia
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Southeast Asia, saying that this poses new risks to the security of the entire region. The Russian Foreign Minister made this statement following his visit to Malaysia.
Lavrov recalled that Washington has already deployed nuclear weapons on the territory of five NATO partner countries.
«If this sad and rather risky experience is brought to Southeast Asia, I think it will not benefit anyone, and the risks will increase,» he said.
According to Lavrov, such a course is called «joint nuclear missions» in Washington, and within the framework of such «missions» countries that do not possess nuclear weapons can conduct appropriate training of their armies.
Earlier, Japanese media reported that Washington and Tokyo agreed to prepare an agreement that will provide for the Americans to defend Japan «from an external aggressor,» including with the use of nuclear weapons. The agreement will disclose the US obligations within the framework of «extended deterrence.» Nuclear weapons will be given special attention in the document. The agreement will determine under what conditions the United States will be able to carry out military actions against states that threaten Japan.
