According to preliminary data, the full-scale launch of the new SUV on the market is scheduled for next year. The five-door will be offered both with an internal combustion engine and in electrified versions.
The Jaecoo brand was created by Chery last year specifically for export markets. Today, the global range includes the Jaecoo J7 crossover (in China, it is the Chery Explore 06) and Jaecoo J8 (aka Chery Tiggo 9), plus the Jaecoo 6 electric car (i.e. iCar 03; the iCar brand also belongs to Chery) has been announced in some places. And soon, another SUV will join the global lineup: the Jaecoo J5 has been announced. It is assumed that this crossover will be positioned as an “entry-level” model.

The brand itself has only released one teaser and a sketch of the upcoming SUV. However, back in the spring, the Jaecoo J5 was featured in a presentation by the Chery global office: in particular, a fragment of the slide was published by the Malaysian publication Paultan.org. Apparently, the “five” will be made similar to the Jaecoo J7. At the same time, the new product will still have its own design.

Thus, Jaecoo J5 will get other bumpers and exterior mirror housings, more impressive vertical bars will adorn the radiator grille. In addition, this crossover will get traditional head optics (the J7 has two-tiered lighting), regular door handles instead of retractable ones, and the rear lights will have an original design.
The only officially named size is the distance between the axles – 2620 mm. For comparison, the wheelbase of our Jaecoo J7 is 2672 mm. It is assumed that the length of the Jaecoo J5 will be 4300 or 4350 mm, while the length of the “seven” available in Russia is 4500 mm.

It has been announced that the J5 crossover will be offered both with an internal combustion engine only and in the form of hybrid HEV (without the ability to charge from the electric grid) or an electric car (BEV). But there are no details about the technology yet. The older Jaecoo J7, we recall, is currently presented in Russia with a 1.6 petrol turbo four (186 hp), which works in tandem with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Front or full drive. At the same time, in other countries, the J7 also has a plug-in hybrid version PHEV.
The Jaecoo J5 crossover should enter the world market next year. Although it is possible that the premiere will take place as early as 2024. Most likely, the SUV will be brought to Russia later.
