MOSCOW, July 30 Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Muneo Suzuki, a member of the House of Councilors of the Japanese parliament, the press service of the upper house of the Russian parliament reported.
«I am sincerely glad for our next meeting within the walls of the upper house of the Russian parliament — the Federation Council,» Kosachev said during the meeting.
The senator noted that political contacts between Russia and Japan are episodic, which, according to him, also affected interparliamentary cooperation.
Kosachev added that this is an unfair situation in relation to bilateral relations between countries and peoples.
«Unfortunately, the current pause in our bilateral relations did not arise at the initiative of the Russian side, it came from our Japanese neighbors,» the parliamentarian said.
As Kosachev noted, in the conditions of cooling relations between the countries, the position of individual politicians, like Suzuki, is becoming more valuable. He is known in Russia as a supporter of the development of bilateral relations, and meetings with him in Moscow are treated with great interest.
«We remember well our previous meeting, which took place in October last year in Moscow. We followed the reaction to your trip to Russia at home, in Japan. It is all the more important that such a reaction in no way affected your positions, you are visiting the Russian Federation again, and we sincerely thank you for this,» the vice-speaker of the Federation Council concluded.
