Vladimir Kara-Murza's lawyer Sergei Safronov has not been allowed to visit him in Omsk Prison Hospital No. 11 for the second day, Vadim Prokhorov, the lawyer who previously represented the politician, reported on Facebook. Kara-Murza's exact whereabouts are currently unknown.
On Tuesday, the refusal to visit was explained by the fact that the politician «is undergoing examination» and was told to come the next day, but today the lawyer was not allowed in under the same pretext.
In July, Kara-Murza was placed in Omsk Hospital No. 11 of the Federal Penitentiary Service «for a medical examination.» After that, lawyers were not allowed to see him for six days. Prokhorov said that before the hospital, Kara-Murza was in the maximum-security penal colony No. 6 in Omsk Oblast.
Before this, Kara-Murza was transferred to IK-7 to be placed in a Single Cell-Type Premises (SCP), which the first colony does not have, and then returned to IK-6.
On July 31, the Federal Penitentiary Service told Reuters that Vladimir Kara-Murza was being transferred from IK-6 in Omsk to another location.
In April 2023, the Moscow City Court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in a maximum security penal colony in the case of military «fakes», participation in the activities of an «undesirable organization» and treason. The occasion was the politician's speech in the House of Representatives of the American state of Arizona, participation in a round table at the Sakharov Center, as well as speeches in Lisbon, Oslo and Washington.
In 2015 and 2017, Kara-Murza was hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning. Investigators from Bellingcat found out that before the first poisoning, Kara-Murza was followed by FSB officers, including the alleged participant in the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, Konstantin Kudryavtsev. The Investigative Committee consistently refused to open cases on the poisoning. After the poisonings, the politician was diagnosed with polyneuropathy, this disease is on the list of diseases that prevent serving a sentence.
The day before, Tatyana Solomina, the lawyer for politician Ilya Yashin, said that he had left IK-3 in the Smolensk region, where he was serving a sentence in a case involving military «fakes.» In June, the administration of the IK transferred the oppositionist to a PKT. Before that, Yashin was kept in a punishment cell for almost a month. On July 19, Solomina was not allowed to see a prisoner for the first time.
In addition, 19-year-old Kevin Leake, convicted of treason, was taken away from the IK-14 penal colony in the village of Gorka-Muravyovskaya in the Arkhangelsk Region.
On July 29, it became known that four political prisoners were not in the colonies and pretrial detention centers where they had previously been held. Liliya Chanysheva, the former head of Alexei Navalny's headquarters in Ufa, was taken away from IK-28 in the Perm Region. Later, the lawyer reported that Ksenia Fadeeva, the former head of the Tomsk headquarters, was not in the colony in the Novosibirsk Region. Human rights activist Oleg Orlov and artist Sasha Skochilenko were taken away from pretrial detention centers in Syzran and St. Petersburg.
Corrected. The headline originally contained information from Reuters that Kara-Murza had been taken away from IK-6, but the politician has not been in the colony for some time, as he was transferred to the prison hospital. We apologize to our readers.
