MOSCOW, August 1 The West's refusal to negotiate means that Russia can take control of even more Ukrainian territories, former NATO adviser and retired Swiss General Staff Colonel Jacques Beau said in an interview with the YouTube channel Daniel Davis/Deep Dive.
«Now the West, by not allowing Ukraine to start negotiations, is pushing Russia even more to achieve a confident victory. <…> This may, for example, include taking control of Odessa,» he noted.
Beau stressed that Russia, thanks to its successes on the front, will reach a point where Ukraine will be forced to negotiate. In his opinion, the West's unwillingness to peacefully resolve the conflict will result in enormous losses for Ukraine.
In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin made new peace proposals for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, which envisage recognizing the status of Crimea, the DPR, LPR, the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as regions of Russia, securing the non-aligned and non-nuclear status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, and the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions. The Ukrainian side rejected the initiative.
