Marc Philipp Gemballa's All-Road Supercar Marsien Enters Production

Developed by German company Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH, the Marcien is based on the 992 generation Porsche 911 Turbo S and is a modern interpretation of the legendary 1980s supercar, the Porsche 959.

The company Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH, based in Freiberg am Neckar (Germany, Baden-Württemberg), was founded in 2021 by Marc Philipp Gemballa, the son of Uwe Gemballa, who in turn founded the legendary tuning studio Gemballa in the early 1980s. After the tragic death of Uwe Gemballa in 2010, the studio got new owners, it continues to work to this day. Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH and Gemballa GmbH are not related in any way and even sued over the name Gemballa, and Marc Philipp Gemballa lost in court, so his supercar is simply called Marsien, and in press releases and on the company's website it is emphasized that it is in no way connected with the tuning studio Gemballa. However, we were pleased to learn that the Marsien project did not stall and three years after the announcement, the car went into production.

The production is, of course, manual: Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH plans to make only 40 copies of Marsien, all of which have long been reserved, each will cost the customer at least half a million euros — the specific price depends on individual wishes and selected options.

The Marsien was designed by Frenchman Alain Desrosiers, already known to our readers for the Renault 5 Turbo 3 restomod and the Kiska APG-1 sports car. Based on the body of the Porsche 911 Turbo S generation 992, he created a modern reincarnation of the Porsche 959, one of the most famous supercars of the 1980s, which was created with an eye on rally group B and won the Paris-Dakar marathon in 1986. The entire exterior skin of the Marsien is made of carbon fiber, it consists of 85 original parts, and in total, the Marsien uses 422 new components, meaning it has come a long way from the original Porsche 911 Turbo S, the curb weight has been reduced by 50 kg.

Marsien, like the Porsche 959, has an adjustable suspension, the ground clearance varies in the range from 120 to 250 mm. The Marsien has a completely new suspension, on double wishbones «in a circle» with adjustable shock absorbers KW. The suspension arms, their mounting points and subframes can be gold-plated for an additional fee. The tire pressure is adjusted on the go. For on-road use, the Marsien is equipped with Michelin Ultra High Performance tires, while off-road use comes with “toothy” Grabber AT 3 tires. The original Lightweight GT wheels with a center nut are decorated with the signature Marc Philipp Gemballa cap on this nut, made of 24-karat gold.

Mark Philip Gemballa entrusted the modification of the engine for the Marsien to colleagues from the most experienced tuning studio RUF: the output of the 3.8-liter flat twin-turbo six was increased from the stock 650 hp. and 850 Nm up to 750 hp. and 930 Nm, and for an additional fee a boost of up to 830 hp is offered. The well-known Slovenian company Akrapovic developed a new titanium exhaust system for the engine with a unique sound, and specialists from the Italian company BMC equipped it with a highly efficient air filtration system for races across dusty steppes and deserts. Changes to the gearbox (8-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic) and all-wheel drive system are not announced. The Marsien accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of 330 km/h.

The first thing that catches the eye in the Marsien's interior is the new high central tunnel in the spirit of the Porsche Carrera GT and the new lightweight seats on carbon fiber frames. The upholstery and trim materials are determined by the customer, and a tubular safety cage is offered as an option. The car's number plates on the central tunnel and in the trunk are made of 24-karat gold.

In the three years since the announcement until the start of production, Marsien has undergone an extensive cycle of driving tests in deserts and snow at extreme temperatures, and has also driven 3,000 km on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, so its driving characteristics should not disappoint buyers. Mark Philipp Gemballa has not yet announced his further creative plans.
