MOSCOW, August 1 Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said that she would agree to head the Federation Council again if such a proposal came from senators.
Mattviyenko's term expires in September of this year. St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov once again proposed her candidacy as a senator from the region in the top three candidates for the post of member of the Federation Council. Matviyenko has represented the Northern capital in the Federation Council since 2011.

"If such a proposal is made and the senators support my candidacy, I will be confident. By the way, I really appreciate the trust of the senators and the support they provide. We have a wonderful team of like-minded people, I value the trust of the senators very much, and you know that I will justify this trust, continue working, and not slow down. But for now, this is a theoretical discourse between us,» Matviyenko answered the question at a press conference following the spring session about whether she would agree to head the Federation Council again after the elections.
She recalled that first, the gubernatorial elections must be held and it will be necessary to wait for which of the three candidates the governor will delegate to the Federation Council.
