Scientists have tested a method of combating mosquitoes by delivering bacteria by drones
Scientists conducted an experiment on the island of Fiji, during which tens of thousands of mosquitoes infected with bacteria were released, the scientific journal Science Robotics (SciRobot) reports.
As noted, scientists from the World Mosquito Control Program are testing a new method of regulating their numbers. Mosquitoes are considered dangerous insects, as they carry a large number of infections, including deadly ones.
Thus, by releasing infected mosquitoes into the wild, scientists wanted to see how well they could infect other mosquitoes with infections that are fatal to them. To do this, scientists developed a special drone with a container for 160 thousand mosquitoes and divided into small compartments. The unmanned aerial vehicle moves from place to place, releasing insects in batches of 150 units.
As a result, it turned out that this technique is effective and allows you to quickly destroy mosquitoes.
