MOSCOW, August 4 A foreign journalist tried to provoke Russian tennis player Diana Schneider with a question about politics after the final match of the Olympic tournament in Paris.
On Sunday, 20-year-old Schneider, paired with 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, won a silver medal in her debut Olympics. In the final of the women's doubles tournament in Paris, the athletes lost to Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini (3rd seed) with a score of 6:2, 1:6, 7:10.
According to Sport24, at the post-match press conference, one of the foreign journalists asked Schneider about her like of a pro-Russian post supporting the Russian Armed Forces.
«Do you have questions that aren't about politics? I'm here to talk about tennis. And I'll only talk about it,» Schneider responded to the journalist.
Andreeva and Schneider brought home the first medal for Russia at the Paris Games. By decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the athletes are competing in a neutral status, without the Russian flag and anthem, and their awards will not be displayed in the medal table.
