Head of Dagestan's Public Monitoring Commission: Former head of Makhachkala pretrial detention center, convicted in torture case, «disappeared» in action during war in Ukraine

Former head of SIZO-1 in Makhachkala Daud Davydov, convicted in the case on torture, extortion and bribery, died in the war in Ukraine, claims MK in Dagestan. The head of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, Shamil Khadulaev, reported that Davydov went missing at the front two months ago.

According to Khadulaev, the former head of the Makhachkala pretrial detention center commanded a unit «on the front lines.» The head of the PMC did not specify which one.

In February last year, a court in Makhachkala sentenced Davydov to eight years in a general regime penal colony. His subordinates Makhachkala Vakilov and Abdulla Mirzaev received five and a half years in prison.

According to investigators, in 2015-2019, security officials beat the former investigator several times and received a bribe of 150 thousand rubles from his wife. Another prisoner was tortured into transferring a land plot and an apartment in the Moscow region worth more than 5 million rubles to a fictitious person.

Davydov, Mirzaev, and Vakilov extorted 3.2 million rubles from the third prisoner, threatening to kill his relatives. Davydov also received 300 thousand rubles for improving the conditions of detention of one of the defendants.

In August 2023, Davydov told members of the POC that even before the verdict — in the fall of 2022 — he «submitted an application to participate in the SVO.» It is unknown when he ended up at the front.
