A resident of Magadan received a year of forced labor for a fire

MAGADAN, August 7 A Magadan court found a Magadan resident guilty of carelessly setting off fireworks, burning down his house, in which two of his guests died, the man received a year of forced labor, it was reported on Wednesday Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region.
«While drinking alcohol with his friend and cohabitant in a private wooden house on Proletarskaya Street without water supply, the owner of the house decided to fire a pyrotechnic signal of a hunter on the adjacent territory. However, while loading the launcher, he allowed it to be triggered unauthorized, the pyrotechnic element ignited and the fire spread. The man and woman, who were intoxicated, were unable to get out of the burning house and died,» the department reports.

It is specified that the court found a resident of Magadan guilty of causing death through negligence to two people in a fire.

«By the court's verdict, the convicted person <…> was sentenced to forced labor for a period of one year, with a portion of his wages withheld. Compensation for moral damages was collected in favor of the relatives of the deceased,» the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Magadan Region added.
