MOSCOW, August 6 Acting head of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov reported on his Telegram channel that six regional governors called him on Tuesday amid the escalation of the situation with fighting in the border area, expressed support and offered assistance.
«Today, against the backdrop of the escalation of the situation in the border area, the governors of the Belgorod, Oryol, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Tambov, Tula regions, and the head of the All-Russian People's Front called me. They expressed support for all Kursk residents and offered assistance to our region,» Smirnov wrote.
On the morning of August 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to break through to the territory of the Kursk region. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian troops with up to 300 personnel, supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles, attacked the positions of units covering the Russian state border in the areas of the settlements of Nikolayevo-Daryino and Oleshnya. According to the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, border guards and the Russian Armed Forces destroyed 16 units of equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the border.
The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered the initiation of a criminal case on the fact of the attack on the settlements of the Kursk region. During the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, residential and administrative buildings, civilian infrastructure facilities were shelled, there are wounded and killed among civilians, the Investigative Committee noted.
The border town of Sudzha was subjected to repeated massive shelling from Ukraine on Tuesday.
