The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 11 tanks and 20 armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces took part in the morning battles in the Kursk region. The department sent reserve troops to the area of ​​the clashes.

According to the Defense Ministry's statement, at around 8:00, 300 people from the 2nd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Russian border.

The department claims that the cover troops and FSB border troops «are repelling attacks and inflicting fire damage on the enemy in the area of ​​the state border and reserves in the territory of the Sumy region.» «Reserves of the Russian group of troops in the Kursk direction» were sent to the area of ​​the fighting.

«Operational-tactical and attack aviation carried out strikes on concentrations of manpower and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of the settlements of Basovka, Zhuravka, Khoten, Yunakovka, Belovody, Khrapovshchina in the Sumy region,» the department said in a statement.

«The situation in the border area remains difficult, but our defenders are successfully working to destroy the enemy,» Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexey Smirnov wrote earlier. He reported two dead and 13 wounded as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. By evening, the number of casualties increased to 18.

Several Z-channels, including «Two Majors» and «Archangel Spetsnaz», wrote on the morning of August 6 that fighting was taking place on the border near Sudzha in two places. At the same time, Smirnov reported that the military «did not allow the border to be broken through.» The Ukrainian side did not report any fighting.
