MOSCOW, August 6 Russian rowers Alexey Korovashkov and Zakhar Petrov have directly qualified for the semi-finals of the canoe 2-man competition at the Paris Olympics.
On Tuesday, in the 500-meter canoe sprint qualification, Korovashkov and Petrov showed a result of 1 minute 38.65 seconds, taking first place and showing the best Olympic time, which had previously stood since the 2004 Olympics (1:38.91). The semi-final races will be held on Thursday.
The Olympics are being held from July 26 to August 11. Fifteen Russians have been admitted to the Games: seven tennis players, three canoeists, three cyclists, one trampoline jumper and one swimmer. By decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the athletes will compete in neutral status, without the Russian flag and anthem, and their awards will not be reflected in the medal table.
