The cost of homemade shawarma in Russia has increased by 10%
The cost of making homemade shawarma in Russia in 2024 increased by 10%. Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Markovkin explained this growth with an increase in consumer prices for almost all ingredients of the dish.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, he said that prices increased due to seasonal fluctuations in the cost of vegetables and positive dynamics in the consumer market.
To calculate the cost of a home-cooked meal for four servings, the cost of chicken meat (600 grams), fresh cucumbers and tomatoes (300 grams each), cabbage (200 grams), ketchup and mayonnaise (100 grams each), vegetable oil (50 grams), thin lavash (four pieces), garlic (20 grams), dry spices (10 grams) and salt are analyzed.
The expert noted that according to official Rosstat data, the largest price increase as of the beginning of August was shown by tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, lavash, chicken meat — from 36.8% to 10.2%, respectively.
Vegetable oil has risen less significantly — by 7% on average.
However, the expert noted, a decrease in the cost of a number of products has also been recorded — mayonnaise, salt, cabbage, ketchup and spices.
“Preparing homemade shawarma for four servings in August 2024 will cost 381 rubles – this is 34.5 rubles more expensive than last year,” economist Dmitry Morkovkin summarized.
Earlier it became known that Russians began to spend more on a shashlik set: according to calculations, it has risen in price by an average of 16%.
