June sales of microchips from the United States to China have become a record since September 2022, notes the Telegram channel of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, citing data from the US Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA)
«Washington is quite consistent in its efforts to «contain China,» but there are oddities in this process, too — for example, the June «record» for microchip sales to China. In the first month of summer, American companies sold $801.5 million worth of microchips to China, the highest since September 2022. In addition, there is positive momentum — a 14.6% increase, despite the fact that in June 2023, microchip exports to China more than doubled (a year ago — $357 million),» the article says.
It is noted that the US's efforts to «contain» China look ambiguous. In total, last year, Beijing China purchased $5.1 billion worth of chips from the US through official channels alone, and in the first six months of this year — already $3.6 billion. At the same time, microchips are also moving in the opposite direction, albeit in smaller quantities — $161.7 million in June, $730 million in the first half of the year, and $1.8 billion by the end of 2023.
«The situation is somewhat reminiscent of the story with the «price ceiling» on Russian oil, when Washington wants to reduce Moscow's oil revenues and at the same time prevent Russian oil from leaving the market. In the case of China, obviously, American «partners» do not want to completely deprive their companies of access to a huge and solvent market, but no one has canceled the task of «containing China,» «- the article says.
