SARATOV, Aug. 16 Crops in Russia have perished due to the return of frosts on an area of 1.1 million hectares, most of which were re-sown, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Andrei Razin said in the Saratov Region during the XI open Russian ploughing championship.
As the deputy minister noted, the year was «difficult» in terms of weather conditions. Despite the forced adjustments, agricultural producers were able to quickly replant most of the lost areas, including high-margin crops.
The deputy minister noted that the area under high-margin crops has increased in Russia. In particular, for grain legumes this figure increased by almost 30 percent, for sugar beets — by more than 9 percent, for oilseeds — more than 7 percent.
In addition, according to him, absolute records were set for the area sown with soybeans, oilseeds, and rapeseed.
