Media reported why Russians have problems with VPN services

MOSCOW, August 17 Free VPN service apps can't handle the user load, RBC writes.
The publication's journalists analyzed user reviews of various VPN service applications and responses from their developers and indicated that problems with their operation are related to the overload of their servers. They assume that this is related to the slowdown of YouTube, since many people began to use VPN services precisely for the sake of watching videos on it.
Some developers suggest that users switch to paid subscriptions in order to provide resources for the operation of services and improve their quality, the article noted.

On July 4, Apple, in accordance with the requirements of Roskomnadzor, blocked 25 VPN service applications located in the Russian App Store. Starting March 1, the agency will block information that popularizes or advertises means of bypassing blocking, such as VPN services or proxy servers.

Rostelecom reported technical problems in the operation of equipment belonging to Google, which could affect the download speed and quality of playback of videos on YouTube for subscribers of all Russian operators. In turn, the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported that the authorities have no plans to restrict access to the platform in Russia.
Later, the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein, said that the download speed of YouTube on computers could drop by 70%. He noted that this measure will not affect mobile communications for now.
As Google reported, the company has been notified that some Russians cannot access YouTube, but the problem is not on the video hosting site's side and is not the result of a technical failure.
