Social network X ceased operations in Brazil

MOSCOW, August 17 Social network X has announced the immediate cessation of its operations in Brazil amid a conflict with a Supreme Court judge over censorship issues, although the platform itself will remain available to Brazilian users.
«

"Last night (Brazilian Supreme Court judge — Ed.) Alexandre de Moraes threatened our legal representative with arrest if we do not follow his orders on censorship issues. <…> In order to ensure the safety of our employees, we have decided to immediately cease our activities in Brazil," the publication on the official X page says.

American entrepreneur and owner of the social network X Elon Musk previously offered Alexandre de Moraes to resign, accusing him of consistently violating the Brazilian constitution and promising to publish his requests to remove materials from the social network. A Brazilian court has ordered an investigation into Musk following allegations against a judge.

As noted, the X platform itself will remain available to users in the country.
The company claims that Moraes made his threats «privately» and did not make them publicly. According to the report, X has filed several appeals to Brazil's Supreme Court to challenge content censorship decisions, but they have not been heard. Additionally, the company says its Brazilian users are unaware that X has been subject to any censorship restrictions.
Musk has previously claimed that his employees in Brazil are facing arrest amid the conflict with the Brazilian government. He later said that the social network had received a request from the US House of Representatives to provide data on actions in the South American country that allegedly violate Brazilian law.
