JAKARTA, August 19 Russia would like to build humanitarian ties with the island of Kalimantan, where the new capital of Indonesia, Nusantara, is located, said Nikita Shilikov, head of the Russian House (representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo) in Jakarta.
Last Saturday, Indonesia celebrated its Independence Day, and for the first time the holiday was held in the country's new capital, Nusantara. The megalopolis being built on the island of Kalimantan should solve the problem of overcrowding in Jakarta, and also become the apotheosis of independent Indonesia, a city free of the «colonialist stench.»
«We would like to further establish closer communication with the provinces of Kalimantan Island, considering that, perhaps, a full-fledged transfer of the capital from Jakarta to Nusantara will soon be carried out,» the head of the Russian House noted.
Shilikov added that at the moment the Russian House is also actively developing relations with the provinces of Java Island, especially with Central Java, as well as the province of Aceh.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov said in an interview that Russia may consider opening a temporary branch of the embassy in Nusantara, where Russian diplomats could work on a rotational basis.
