
MOSCOW, June 27 Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic has announced on Twitter that he has not will take part in Wimbledon due to coronavirus. On Tuesday, Cilic was supposed to play the first round match of the tournament against American Mackenzie McDonald. In the grid, the Croatian was replaced by the «lucky loser» Portuguese Nuno Borges. «I am sad to report that I have tested positive for coronavirus. I went to isolation and hoped I would be ready, but, unfortunately, I still do not feel very well and not able to fight at full strength. I am upset that I have to miss Wimbledon and that my grass season ends like this,» wrote Cilic. Cilic is ranked 17th in the ATP rankings, is 2014 US Open winner. At Wimbledon, his best result is reaching the final of the tournament in 2017. Wimbledon, held on grass courts, will end on 10 July. In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) refused to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to the tournament because of the situation in Ukraine. In response, in May, the ATP and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award ranking points to competitors.
