File photoUN, Jul 15 The West would most help Kyiv if it convinced the Kyiv regime to enter into substantive negotiations with Russia on the terms of a ceasefire, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said on TNT Radio. «I believe that the best support that Western countries, including the United States, could provide is to bring a little sense of political planning and actions of the Ukrainian leadership in order to start substantive, serious peace negotiations with Russia on the terms of a ceasefire,» Polyansky said. He recalled that negotiations were held between the Russian Federation and Ukraine in March, «and it seemed that the Ukrainian delegation had certain sound thoughts that could be taken as the basis for discussion.» «But suddenly, after consultations with Washington, and especially with London, they changed their minds and returned with completely unrealistic assessments of what is happening,» the diplomat said. «The military situation on earth is developing, to put it mildly, not in favor of Ukraine. The more they wait, the worse conditions will be for them. So instead of belligerent calls from Washington and London, these capitals should spend more time persuading the Ukrainian leadership to accept reality and face the truth,» Polyansky said.
