Archaeologists have discovered valuable offerings to Demeter in the ruins of an ancient temple

MOSCOW, 19 Nov. Archaeologists have discovered hundreds of offerings to the goddess Demeter in the ruins of an ancient temple, Arkeonews writes, citing the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Scientists have seen five boxes for offerings in the floor, once tiled. They contained well-preserved vases, one of which was inscribed «dedicated to the goddess Demeter.»

The archaeologists also stumbled upon a pit with works of art dating back to 600 BC. They are hundreds of years older than other finds. Among them are glass objects, terracotta figurines of animals and clay figurines of women.

As a result, archaeologists came to the conclusion that the temple was rebuilt 2300 years ago after the collapse.
The find was made during excavations in the ancient city of Falasarna in Crete. The temple was built in the Doric style. It had two corrugated columns, capitals, metopes and a pediment. According to experts, its height was more than 25 feet (more than seven and a half meters), and its width was 16 feet (almost five meters). There were no others like it on the island.
Demeter is an ancient Greek goddess associated with the earth, fertility and the power of water as a source of life.
