SEUL Dec 6 The Korean People's Army (KPA) fired artillery again in response to South Korean military firing in areas near the inter-Korean border and demanded that the «enemy side» immediately stop «provocative military activities» in the border areas.
«Following (shooting — ed.) December 5, today, December 6, at about 09.15 (03.15 Moscow time) it was recorded that the enemies again fired shots from anti-aircraft guns and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) in areas adjacent to the front line. The DPRK General Staff issued order to the artillery and other units of the Korean People's Army to be ready to confront and increase surveillance of the enemy camp, the specified artillery units were ordered to immediately fire live shells at sea in order to severely warn and respond (to the actions of South Korea — ed)», — the statement says.
North Korea also demanded that the «enemy side» immediately stop «provocative military activities» in the border areas.
Earlier it was reported that on Monday North Korea fired 130 artillery shots from the areas bordering South Korea towards the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. The South Korean military said this violated a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement to reduce tensions in border buffer zones and demanded a halt to such activities. The North Korean General Staff responded by saying that the artillery shots were a reaction to corresponding shootings in South Korea in the area near the border with the DPRK. A spokesman for the South Korean military explained at the briefing that the South Korean military fired artillery as part of a routine routine exercise. North Korea has promised to always respond to «enemy actions» with even more serious military measures.
