SOCHI, May 4. The Adler District Court in Sochi sentenced the head of a religious association who tortured children as educational measures to 3 years and 6 months in a penal colony, the united press service reported courts of the Krasnodar Territory.
The court established that in 2008 Vladimir Khoruzhy organized a religious association on the territory of Abkhazia and called it «Soul Country». An indefinite number of people were involved in the sect, including children. More than 30 adherents of the teachings lived permanently with Khoruzhym in the house of the village of Daranda.
According to the court, as an educational measure, Khoruzhy used his own psychological and pedagogical tactics, which was based on the religious trend of «Krishnaism» (Vaishnavism). For disobedience, the head of the sect systematically beat the wards with a USB cable, a belt, a plant stem, forced him to do push-ups in the cold, deprived him of sweets, and forbade watching films. The activity of the religious association was stopped in 2021.
«The Adler District Court announced the verdict against Vladimir Khoruzhy, who was found guilty of committing crimes under part 1 of article 239, paragraph «g» of part 2 of article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture with the use of torture…),” the statement reads.
The court found Khoruzhy guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of 3 years and 6 months in a penal colony, the press service added.
