DONETSK, June 12Ukrainian troops fired 11 NATO-caliber 155-millimeter shells at the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, the DPR representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reported on a telegram channel.
«Fire was recorded from the Ukrainian Armed Forces (Armed Forces of Ukraine — ed.) in the direction: 08.20 — the settlement of Maksimilyanovka — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): six shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired; 10.05 — the settlement of Ilyinka — the settlement of Aleksandrovka : fired five shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters,» the representative office said in a statement.
In addition, Ukrainian troops fired five 152mm rounds at Yelenovka.
Petrovsky district of Donetsk is located on the western outskirts of the administrative center of the DPR, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DNR declared independence from Kyiv, the area has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian security forces.
The village of Oleksandrivka belongs to the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and is located a kilometer from Marinka, where the positions of Ukrainian forces are located and from where the artillery shelling of the administrative center is carried out DNR. Water supply has been cut off in the village, and electricity is rare due to constant shelling.
155 mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 howitzers with a caliber of 155 millimeters, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
