The Diocesan Court of the Kostroma diocese proposed to Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta to ban Priest John Burdin from being a priest, as he found in his publications «a denial of the holiness and saving powers» of the Russian Orthodox Church. The 7×7 edition drew attention to the court's decision.
According to the publication of the Kostroma metropolis, the court proposed to ban the priest from priestly service until Burdin brings public repentance. The reason for this decision was the posts of the priest in his telegram channel «MARAN AFA», in respect of which a theological analysis was carried out.
As a result, the publications found «denial of the holiness and saving powers» of the Russian Orthodox Church, doubts about the holiness of the Matrona of Moscow and Prince Dimitry Donskoy, as well as statements “aimed at tearing believers away from the Church of Christ,” clarified in the diocesan court.
Earlier, Burdin published the materials of the case, prepared for the meeting of the church court. They said: “Pacifism in different eras of church history was present in heretical doctrines <…>. Throughout its history, the Orthodox Church has blessed the soldiers to defend the Fatherland.”
The rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the village of Karabanovo, Kostroma Region, Burdin was fined 35,000 rubles for an anti-war sermon in March 2022. He left the parish a month later.
