SIMFEROPOL, July 7The threat of a military attack by the Ukrainian authorities and a nuclear incident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been reduced, but has not disappeared, said Renat Karchaa, adviser to the head of Rosenergoatom
Earlier, Karchaa said that Kiev was going to attack the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant on the night of July 5 using high-precision weapons and drones -kamikaze, it is also planned to strike with a Tochka-U missile with a warhead stuffed with radioactive waste. This did not happen, but the risks remain: as the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said a few hours ago, Kyiv, by blowing up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, demonstrated that it does not shun anything.
«The probability of this has significantly decreased. But it is impossible to completely exclude, 100%, we can’t relax and count on the fact that all this has sunk to the past — no. These crazy people decided to put everything on the line — for the purpose of causing irreparable damage to the Russian Federation,» Karchaa said on the air of Rossiya 24.
He added that his statement about the forthcoming provocation of the Kyiv authorities on the night of July 5 at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was aimed at «preemption and warning.»
“If the sources of information that we relied on when making such statements, even for a second, would cause us doubts in terms of competence and responsibility, we would not go for it. But this insane regime in Kiev left us no other way out. Speaking a little non-parliamentary, I will say — they rolled back … The main thing is that they managed to prevent a terrible, nuclear incident. But the threat has not been removed today,» Karchaa said.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity — the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kiev regime seeks to create the appearance of a threat of a nuclear catastrophe by continuing to purposefully shell the ZNPP. The International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly stated the need to create a security zone around the ZNPP.
