SIMFEROPOL, September 8 Freelance adviser to the acting governor Kherson region, co-chairman of the Coordination Council for the Development and Integration of New Regions at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Alexander Malkevich, called the US threat to impose sanctions for supporting elections in new Russian entities an intellectual agony.
Earlier, the State Department reported that the United States may impose sanctions against those who support Russia-led elections in the Donbass, Zaporozhye, Kherson region and Crimea, including as international observers.
«This is just intellectual agony on the part of our enemies. All they can do is try to threaten, try to talk from a position of strength. It infuriates and drives them crazy that they cannot interfere with the free will of citizens,» — said Malkevich.
According to him, the current US authorities are unable to conduct a constructive dialogue and respect the choice and will of other peoples.
Local elections are being held for the first time in the Kherson region, as a subject of the Russian Federation. They elect the regional Duma and local government bodies. Voting will last until September 10th inclusive.
