The head coach of the Moscow football club «Spartak» Guillermo Abascal did not protect himself from dismissal after a draw in the match of the 11th round of the Russian Premier League against CSKA, said the former president of the capital's «Lokomotiv» Olga Smorodskaya.
On Sunday, Spartak drew with CSKA with a score of 2:2 in a home match of the Russian Championship. The Red and Whites equalized the score in added time to the second half.
“I don’t think that Guillermo Abascal’s position has become stronger after the draw with CSKA. He did not protect himself, he could still be fired and he would be right. Of course, the result of a particular match is an important factor, but the management will consider all aspects in in general, to make a decision to fire the coach. I don’t see any prospects for Abaskal,” Smorodskaya said.
Abascal is 34 years old, he has been working at the Moscow club since June 2022. Under his leadership, Spartak played 58 matches and won 30 victories. In the 2022/23 season, the “red-whites” won bronze medals at the Russian Championship. “Spartak” is in sixth place in the RPL standings, gaining 17 points in 11 rounds.
