A criminal case was opened against the 56-year-old animator and creator of the series “Masyanya” Oleg Kuvaev for public calls for activities aimed against the security of the state, unnamed sources of Fontanka and Mash on the Moika reported.
According to Fontanka, the artist is in the status of a suspect; he himself wrote on his social networks that he left for Israel. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet put him on the wanted list. Later, the press service of the Investigative Committee’s department for St. Petersburg confirmed to TASS that a case had been opened against Kuvaev. Punishment under Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code implies up to seven years of imprisonment, depending on the part.
The reason for initiating the case was a video on the YouTube channel. According to “Mash on the Moika”, we are talking about the 169th episode of the series “Masyanya”, in which the main character “calls on Russian soldiers to surrender with the help of a website created with the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
This episode was released on July 14, 2023, at the end of it Masyanya says: “Dear Russian soldier, current or potential, behind your back there is no righteousness, no homeland, no honor… This is a purely aggressive war. No valor! What a shame! It hurts to talk about this, but it’s a fact. This bastard is playing with thousands of human lives without meaning or purpose. The “I want to live” project can be a serious salvation for you if you have fallen or may fall under the bulldozer of Putin’s mobilization.”
In addition, today the telegram channels Baza and Astra reported the initiation of a criminal case about military “fakes” «(Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) against the animator and creator of the animated series Mr. Freeman by Pavel Muntean because of a post about Bucha, written in April 2022.
“The photos are scary. Execution of civilians in Bucha. The focus was on men 18-60 years old. So that civilians do not side with the defense of Ukraine. At least 280 civilians were simply shot by the peacekeepers. A special operation, such a special operation. Denazification is in full swing…,” said Muntyan’s publication. There was no official information about the initiation of a case against the cartoonist; he himself learned about it from publications in the media.
