ANKARA, January 18 Some Turkish companies may start receiving money transfers from Russia today, which have been stopped due to US sanctions pressure on banks, according to conditions anonymity of the head of one of the local companies.
“Some exporters were promised to normalize the situation today. By 15:00, some of us can already receive transfers. We are in a waiting mode,” said the agency’s interlocutor, whose company supplies cosmetics and household products to the Russian market.
The Ekonomim newspaper reported on Tuesday that Turkish exporters were faced with bank refusals to accept remittances from Russia intended to pay for goods.
Transactions have virtually stopped since January 1. Exporters are waiting for urgent decisions to continue trade with Russia, the Turkish Ministry of Trade has taken up the issue.
Russian Ambassador to Ankara Alexey Erkhov said that diplomats are in contact with the Turkish authorities on this issue.
Source in one of the state banks in Ankara reported earlier this week that the problem with financial transactions has been present since the beginning of the year, partly due to pressure on Turkey due to Western sanctions. The agency's interlocutor emphasized that the banking sector has not received any evidence that the Turkish side is helping to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions.
