Retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter commented on the message about the liquidation of French mercenaries in Ukraine. The expert called the idea that the French authorities were not aware of the presence of their citizens in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces absurd.
The intelligence officer considers it unlikely that the French government did not know about the presence of the country's citizens in Ukraine in such numbers and concentrations .
Their participation in hostilities without the direct support of Paris is also unlikely, the analyst added.
According to the officer, the French could be connected with the French Foreign Legion and instructed military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Earlier today, the French ambassador arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry because of French mercenaries in Kharkov.
