Vladimir Zelensky dismissed Sergei Shaptala from the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointed Anatoly Bragilevich, head of the Defense Forces, in his place. The President of Ukraine announced this during his evening video message.
Zelensky called Bragilevich “an experienced person” who “understands the tasks of this war and Ukrainian goals.”
After the start of the Russian invasion, Major General Anatoly Bragilevich was subordinate to Alexander Syrsky, who had been appointed the day before to the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the eastern sector of the front. He took up his previous post as commander of the Defense Forces four months ago.
