The wife of the British monarch, Queen Camilla, refused to shake hands with the wife of French President Brigitte Macron at the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Brigitte Macron tried to take Queen Camilla's hand at the D-Day memorial. However, this was a violation of protocol and the Queen reacted coldly and did not shake hands.
“An awkward moment,” a British newspaper commented.
The television footage showed Brigitte Macron after laying wreaths at The monument looks for Camilla's hand to shake it, but the queen does not respond to the gesture. Then the wife of the French president lightly squeezed the royal's hand, but quickly let go.
