
MOSCOW, June 10 Expensive Russian wine is now in a more difficult situation than budget wine, which can be helped by an increase in import duties on wines from unfriendly countries, the State Secretary said on the sidelines of SPIEF — Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov.
«The luxury segment of domestic winemaking is not growing as fast as the mass segment. And this direction can only be supported by increasing import duties on wine from unfriendly countries. I agree with this idea,» he said on the sidelines of the forum .
< br />Evtukhov did not answer the question by how much duties should be increased, but emphasized that after the inclusion of this mechanism, it will definitely be easier for the domestic premium segment to develop.
In March, the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia asked the Russian authorities to set import duties on wines from NATO countries at 200%, and also to cancel the preferential regime of import duties for wine from Georgia.
