The Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala arrested the former head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov, whose son was killed at the end of June as a participant in the terrorist attack. RIA Novosti reported this to the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic.
The detention of the former official became known on July 6. He is accused of fraud (Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code) and money laundering obtained by criminal means (Clause “a” of Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code).
According to investigators, Omarov fictitiously employed two residents of Sergokala in a rural newspaper and, from 2016 to 2022, took their wages for himself. The total amount of damage, according to security officials, amounted to 697 thousand rubles.
In Derbent and Makhachkala, on June 23, Orthodox churches and synagogues were shelled and police were attacked. 21 people died, including 16 security forces. On the night after the terrorist attack, the NAC reported the killing of five militants.
Interfax and TASS, citing security officials, reported that two sons of Omarov were among the participants in the terrorist attack in Dagestan. At the same time, according to Kommersant, only one son of Omarov, Osman, was involved in the militant attack. He was killed by police. The Baza Telegram channel wrote that during interrogation, Magomed Omarov said that he knew about the radical views of some of his relatives.
Before the terrorist attack, Magomed Omarov served as head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan. On June 23, he wrote a letter of resignation, which was approved by the head of the republic. The next day, Omarov was expelled from the United Russia party.
