Leaders of African states have already Having once visited Ukraine and Russia to search for peaceful ways to resolve the conflict between these countries, they are ready to continue this mission. This statement was made on Tuesday, July 16, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of South Africa, Ronald Lamola.
The politician emphasized that any peace initiative must take into account the positions of both interested parties — the conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved without the participation of Russia.
Lamola allowed the continuation of dialogue with the participation of African political leaders in order to ensure the necessary interaction with Russia to resolve the conflict.
Earlier, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the people of Africa supports Russia and believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin saved Donbass. The politician said that he couldn’t even imagine “what kind of work was done on their heads,” that they so unconditionally trust the Russian authorities.
Director of the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Irina Abramova said, what opportunities are associated with the restoration of Russian-African ties. She noted that just a year ago Africa was not so widely represented in the Russian media, but now there is an awareness that the “non-Western world” is not limited solely to China and India.
