Gold medals taken from Russian figure skaters were awarded to Americans

MOSCOW, August 7 The International Olympic Committee (IOC) held an awards ceremony in Paris for the US and Japanese teams in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Games in Beijing; the Russians were not invited to the ceremony.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday in the Champions Park near the Eiffel Tower. The US team was awarded gold medals, and the Japanese were awarded silver. The Russian team skaters were supposed to receive bronze, but they were not invited.
Earlier on Wednesday, a source familiar with the situation reported that the Russian team had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) with a demand to cancel the ceremony.

Following the completion of its investigation into the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, the International Skating Union (ISU) has redistributed the medals of the 2022 Olympic team tournament, awarding gold to the United States, silver to the Japanese team, and bronze to the Russians. CAS has consistently rejected the appeals of the Russian and Canadian sides against the ISU decision, upholding it.

The Russian team, which included Mark Kondratyuk and Kamila Valieva in singles skating, Anastasia Mishina/Alexander Galliamov in pairs skating, and Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov in ice dancing, won gold in the figure skating team tournament at the Beijing Olympics in early February 2022. The day after it ended, it became known that Valieva had tested positive for doping, which she took at the Russian Championships on December 25, 2021. At the end of January this year, CAS issued a verdict on a four-year disqualification for Valieva, starting from the date of the sample. After that, the awards were redistributed.
