Gazprom continues to supply gas for transit through the Sudzha gas metering station

MOSCOW, August 12 Gazprom continues to supply gas for transit through Ukraine via the Sudzha gas metering station in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side: as of August 12 – 39.6 million cubic meters, which is slightly higher than the previous day's volumes, according to a statement from the company's official representative, Sergei Kupriyanov.
Gazprom is supplying Russian gas for transit through Ukrainian territory in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side via the Sudzha GIS — 39.6 million cubic meters as of August 12. The application for the Sokhranovka GIS has been rejected,» he told journalists.

Since the beginning of the year, pumping has remained above 40 million cubic meters per day, but on August 7 it dropped slightly below this mark.

In May 2022, Ukraine stopped accepting gas for transit through the Sokhranovka GIS, citing the fact that it is under the control of Russian forces (on the territory of the LPR). As a result, only one entrance remains for gas transit to Europe — the Sudzha GIS. Gazprom stated that it is technologically impossible to transfer all volumes to Sudzha. At the same time, the transit agreement between Gazprom and Ukraine assumes that the guaranteed daily pumping volume (from both sides) from 2021 is 109.6 million cubic meters.
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said that on August 6 at 5.30 am, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine numbering up to a thousand people went on the offensive with the aim of seizing territory in the Sudzhensky district of the Kursk region. Their advance deeper into Russian territory has been stopped, he noted. Also on Tuesday, the border town of Sudzha was subjected to repeated massive shelling from Ukraine. On Wednesday, the head of the locality called the situation in the city “very tense.”
The supply route through the Sudzha gas measuring station is currently the only one for gas transit from Russia through Ukraine to Europe. Gazprom supplied about 15 billion cubic meters per year last year, which, according to Eurostat, amounted to approximately 4.5% of EU consumption.
