The Military Court of Appeal in Vlasikha, Moscow Region, mitigated the punishment for the defendants in the case of Sakhalin teenagers Ilya Grunis and Maxim Pudovkin, attorney Leonid Solovyov told Novaya Gazeta.
Earlier Grunis and Pudovkin were sentenced to 7 and 6.5 years in prison respectively, on charges of preparing a mass execution in the Sakhalin Mining College in the village of Shakhtersk (part 1 of article 30, paragraph “a” of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code).
After the appeal, Grunis's term was reduced to 6 years in a general regime colony, Pudovkin — to 5 years. & nbsp;

Initially, the prosecutor's office demanded nine years in prison for them, but the court of first instance acquitted both students on the basis of the episodes of illegal manufacture of explosives (part 2 of article 223.1). Pudovkin was also acquitted under the article on illegal acquisition of weapons (part 2 of article 222 of the Criminal Code as amended in 2014), and Grunis — under the article on propaganda of terrorism (part 2 of article 205.2). They have the right to rehabilitation.
The examination of the Investigative Committee did not find biological traces of the defendants on the weapons and explosive devices seized from the students' homes, despite the fact that a sawed-off shotgun was allegedly found in Grunis's house in a box with linen, and an improvised explosive device was found in Pudovkin's bed. p>
“Nothing additional has appeared to the world. The prosecutor asked to cancel the verdict and send for a new trial, as he was not satisfied with the partial acquittal. But he was denied this, «lawyer Solovyov said.
During the trial in the First Eastern District Military Court, an inspection of the actions of the FSB investigators during the search of the defendants in the case was ordered, but later the court did not take into account the results checks. The parents of the defendants stated that during the searches, weapons and explosives could have been planted on their children. The security forces were unable to provide the court with a video recording of the search, citing the fact that it had already been destroyed.
Ilya Grunis stated at the trial that FSB officers could allegedly follow him, as he was being treated in a psychiatric hospital and told about his anxious thoughts and aggression. He believes that on the basis of this, the investigation could have decided that he was allegedly prone to attacks.
