The Military Court of Appeal has reduced the terms for students of the Sakhalin technical school Maxim Pudovkin and Ilya Grunis in the case of the preparation of the «Columbine». Lawyer Leonid Soloviev told Mediazon about this.
Grunis was sentenced to six years in prison, Pudovkin — five years. In August 2021, they were sentenced to seven and six and a half years in prison. The prosecutor's office requested them up to nine years in prison.
They were found guilty of preparing for a terrorist attack (part 1 of Article 30, paragraph «a» of part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code), the sale of weapons and explosives (part 2 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code and article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). Pudovkin and Grunis were also charged with calling for terrorism and making explosives, but these charges were eventually dropped. They pleaded not guilty.
The students were detained in March 2020. According to the investigation, they planned to attack a technical school in the village of Shakhtersk, for which they bought a sawn-off shotgun of a hunting rifle, cartridges and explosives. The FSB reported on the seizure of adolescents' personal diaries «containing information about a planned armed attack on an educational institution.»
