MOSCOW, Jan 18.In Saudi Arabia, archaeologists have discovered a vast network of 4,500-year-old «burial alleys» with well-preserved Bronze Age tombs, according to the Daily Mail. The study was carried out by scientists from the University of Western Australia. Over the past year, they have conducted a large-scale investigation, scanning the little-studied territory in the area of u200bu200bthe oases of Al-Ula and Khaibar. The experts took aerial photography from a helicopter, studied satellite images, and worked on the ground. All this allowed archaeologists to establish that the «funeral alleys» stretched for hundreds, or even thousands of kilometers. Along them, experts discovered burials — a total of about 18 thousand tombs. Some of them are described as «hanging», as they resemble the details of jewelry attached to a chain. Although, if we consider the pictures taken from a height, you might think that these are some kind of «alien» circles, exclamation marks or figures of the aliens themselves. The experts came to the conclusion that the «funeral alleys» are a kind of «corridors» connecting oases, pastures and burials. Human remains dating back to the third millennium BC have been found in these graves. According to Dr. Matthew Dalton of the University of Western Australia and lead author of the study, people living in these areas were unaware of the scale of the ancient structures.

Dalton added that the «burial alleys» served as the main road network about five thousand years ago. And the people inhabiting these territories were socially and economically more advanced than previously thought. According to the researchers, further excavations and analysis of the remains will allow us to learn more about this ancient society and its customs.
